About Us
KC Family Farm was started in 2017 in rural Georgia on five acres of land. Our family moved to Georgia from the Kansas City metropolitan area, where most of us were born and raised. There are a total of 6 of us on the farm, spanning three generations of the family. While we realize this living situation is quite rare now, it has been working well for us and we love having grandparents under the same roof as grandchildren (although all current members of the household are adults with our 22 year old son being the youngest). We are able to pool our resources, share in the chores around the house and property, and it is truly a blessing to share this lifestyle with family, despite the challenges that go along with it.
In the beginning of KC Family Farm, we were a small farm-based business selling goat milk soaps and lotions that were made with the milk from our own small herd of dairy goats, as well as various other products ranging from eggs from our free ranging flock of hens to starter plants and garden produce.
In 2023, we lost our middle son Codey, just days before his 26th birthday. This tragic loss caused us as parents to make some major life changes. We sold every farm animal we had, we held two large yard sales, selling a lot of things that just took up space, but also selling a large amount of our supplies and equipment that had anything to do with raising any livestock. Ray and I accepted a job that required 100% travel in November 2023 and thought that was what we would be doing for years until aging parents would require us to return home.
Just over one year later, that requirement became a reality, and we returned home for Christmas 2024 with the intent to take care of family matters and then later return to the travel job. Unfortunately, a serious car accident that left us both with injuries requiring surgery, long recovery times and me unable to handle some of the facets of the travel job meant we would be staying home for good. With nothing else to keep my mind occupied as my body was recovering, I decided to revive KC Family Farm with a slightly different focus.
My farming and gardening practices still lean heavily on natural, organic and sustainable practices, and I still firmly feel that it is best to put natural products in and on our bodies, but rather than having a product-based business, I have decided that KC Family Farm will be focused more on education. There will be new product lines available in the future if you would like to financially support KC Family Farm, but the website will look much different with a focus on blogs, vlogs and social media posts sharing what is going on around here and educating the public on ways to live a cleaner, healthier and hopefully less stressful life.
As my physical abilities have changed drastically from the car accident and resulting spine surgery, I will be adapting some of our garden areas to be as handicap accessible as possible for people of all physical abilities to learn from and enjoy with me. Stay tuned, as this will be a multi-year project.
