Animal Sales Policy
Sales Policies
Below is the sales policy outlining the purchase of a goat from our farm to protect buyer, seller and most importantly, the animals. Also outlined is a brief summary of how we manage our herd.
- We reserve the right to retain any kids born on our farm.
- We do not accept reservations or payments on any unborn animals. After an animal is born and available for sale, a deposit of half of the purchase price is required to hold any animal, or it will be offered to the next potential buyer.
- Prices quoted on animals are subject to change prior to a deposit being received, due to aging/maturing, breeding, testing, appraisal or any other factors that would affect the value of an animal. Once a deposit is paid on an animal at its current price, the price shall not be changed by any party. Prices quoted do not include sales tax that will be added to the purchase and paid equally between the deposit and the remaining balance.
- Remainder of balance is due at pick-up and is payable in cash, card or PayPal. Pick-up must be arranged at the time of deposit for a mutually agreed upon date. Any animals not picked up on the agreed upon date will be re-posted for sale and the deposit will be forfeited.
- Deposits are non-refundable unless the animal becomes sick or dies prior to pick-up. Upon sickness or death, seller agrees to refund 100% of the deposit paid within 10 business days. If the animal becomes sick or dies during transportation to, or in its new home, the seller is not responsible for a refund or a replacement animal as the animal is no longer in our care and we cannot control the circumstances affecting the animals health once it leaves our farm.
- All baby goats are disbudded within the first week of life.
- We do not sell newborn goats, as we feel they get the best start in life when they receive colostrum from their dams.
- Kids that are dam-raised will be weaned around 12 weeks of age depending on maturity (bucklings are typically weaned before doelings due to reaching sexual maturity faster). Dam-raised kids do not leave our farm for new homes prior to weaning so that they have time to develop a healthy immune system. All of our baby goats will be dam-raised unless extreme circumstances require us to intervene for the health of the kid and/or dam and bottle feed.
- Any goat kids sold as bottle babies will be bottle fed on our farm a minimum of two weeks prior to leaving our farm, and will leave our farm no sooner than two weeks after birth. Buyer agrees to continue bottle feeding until the kid is at least 3 months of age and eating sufficient amounts of hay, browse and grain/pelleted feed to successfully and healthfully wean completely from milk.
- All kids born on our farm are raised within the herd to learn herd socialization skills and normal goat behaviors, but are handled daily so that they also learn socialization skills with humans and will be easier for future owners to handle and properly care for.
- All males will be wethered (castrated) by banding prior to leaving our farm. Intact bucklings will only be sold on rare occasions, as we will only sell top quality intact bucklings who meet conformation requirements for breed standard and registration with the ADGA. Please contact us if you are interested in a buckling for breeding purposes.
- We will only sell goats in pairs, or individuals to a home already consisting of goats. Goats are herd animals and must have a companion. We strongly recommend housing intact males separate from females to prevent accidental breedings and/or injury. Wethers make excellent companions for either bucks or does.
- While we do not currently train all of our goats to walk on a leash, for an additional fee of $25 per animal, paid at the time of deposit, we will work daily with kids to train them to walk on a leash.
- All of our goats have a diet of free range grass, browse and Alfalfa or Bermuda hay with free choice Sweetlix brand loose minerals. Does that have been bred or are in milk receive pelleted feed and grain twice daily to encourage a healthy pregnancy and to maintain good condition during milking. Weaning kids are offered small amounts of a well-rounded pelleted feed that contains a coccidiostat twice daily. It is encouraged for goats to continue our feed program in their new home and transition slowly over a fee weeks to avoid any stress to their digestive tract that could cause digestive issues.
- Our herd is tested regularly for diseases on a pro-active basis. As of January 22, 2021 our herd tested negative for CL (Caseous Lymphadenitis), CAE (Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis), Brucellosis and Johne's Disease (Paratuberculosis). Contact us to view a copy of the lab report.
- All goats will be in good health, tattooed, current on CD&T vaccinations, and have hooves trimmed prior to leaving our farm. We reserve the right to refuse the return of a goat to our farm for biosecurity reasons. Health certificates and any additional disease testing are available at the expense of the buyer.
- Buyer is responsible for transportation. We do not provide shipment as an option for transporting animals from our farm to a buyer. Buyer is also responsible for vet health records required for each state they are traveling through.
- We guarantee the health of our animal at the time of departure and buyer agrees that the animal is in good health and has become entirely their responsibility going forward and seller is no longer liable for the health of the animal once it leaves our farm.
- We strongly encourage personal pick-up of animals over outside transportation options due to biosecurity reasons. If buyer chooses to use outside transportation, the transporter and new owner become responsible and liable for the health of the animal once it is loaded for transportation. We cannot guarantee what happens during transportation due to outside elements, potential exposure to other animals and other factors outside of our control. Times of stress, including transportation, cause weakened immune systems and the possibility of sickness, increased parasite load, coccidiosis and more.
- It is the buyer's responsibility after pick-up to monitor their new animal closely and watch for any signs of oncoming illness. We encourage a time of quarantine for all new animals before introducing them to the rest of your herd for the safety of both the new animal and your existing herd.
- We reserve the right to cancel a sale and refund a deposit if we believe it is in the animal's best interest at any point up to the animal leaving our farm.
- We cannot guarantee the animal's end conformation, breedability and/or dairy production after leaving our farm. Many elements such as environment, care and feed of the animal can affect how the animal matures.
- The purchase price includes continued mentoring from KC Family Farm as desired by the buyer.
By placing a deposit on an animal and/or signing the Goat Sales Policy, buyer agrees to the above terms.
